Description: The Logan 2006 Cabernet Merlot is a rich red colour with aromas of cassis, raspberry and a herbaceous perfume of rosemary and thyme. These continue onto the firm palate which also shows boysenberry, dark chocolate and tobacco with a long finish.

Mudgee-based Peter Logan is doing ever-more-impressive things with Orange grapes. Excellent colour introduces a sweetly ripe, pristine, ripeblackberry nose. These aromas translate well to the palate where it's tight and nicely firm with abundant fruit, presented with vibrancy and richness. The tannin structure suggests it will take some age well but the grip melts away with food. Little track record so cellar with caution: I'd guess it will keep well for a decade but it's so up-front it's hard to imagine why you wouldn't drink it young. Food: Red-wine based stews, braises and casseroles, osso bucco, daube of beef, boeuf bourguignon.
