Description: The Laughing Magpie Shiraz Viognier has a vivid dark purple colour. The Viognier adds fragrance and the perfume of flowers, nectarines, ginger and herbs, serving to enhance the very ripe spectrum of the Shiraz, namely blackberry, blueberry and boysenberry.
Details: As with all d’Arenberg wines, gentle and traditional winemaking processes are employed. Ripe bunches of Shiraz and Viognier were gently crushed by the ‘Demoisy’ open –mouthed, rubber toothed crusher, before fermentation together in the headed down open fermenters. The still fermenting juice was then transferred using the peristaltic action of our must pump to be basket pressed by our ‘Coq’ and “Bromley and Tregoning’ presses, followed by 12 months maturation in American and French oak barriques, before bottling on site.
You’ll find 2005 has produced aromas of plum and spice with a floral lift while the silky palate has flavours of red and dark berries, liquorice and spice and a long finish.
