Saint Clair Sauvignon Blanc
  • Saint Clair Sauvignon Blanc
    Code: SCSB06
  • Description: "Passionfruit and guava characters with a subtly herbal undercurrent. It has pristine fruit purity and a good balance of subtle sweetness against acidity giving a soft, yet dry finish. A classic example of the Marlborough style." 4 Stars/91 Points - Gourmet Traveller Feb/Mar '08
  • Details: Fruit for this wine was sourced from a variety of vineyards and sub-regions including the Lower Wairau, Rapaura, O’Dwyers Road and the Brancott Valley. Each vineyard block was harvested when it had reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness. Every load of grapes was transported to the winery with haste and pressed off immediately to minimize skin contact and juice deterioration. After settling, the juice from each batch was fermented using a variety of selected yeasts in 100% stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain fruit flavour and freshness. Each batch was assessed for quality and then only the best components were selected for their potential to add to the overall quality and complexity of the Saint Clair blend. Once blended the resulting wine was then carefully prepared for bottling.

This wine has classic Marlborough pungency and varietal definition. There are aromas of white and blackcurrants and plenty of passion fruit. The palate is full, finishing with fresh gooseberry and currant acidity with mineral characters that linger for several minutes. This is an excellent food wine that will enhance meals with delicate flavours such as white meats or fish.

"I have recommended this before but it's such a sublime wine that, with spring upon us, I thought I must flag it up again. Pale straw in the glass, it has a super-concentrated nose of freshly cut grass, asparagus and pear. But I love the way the semillon takes the edge off the sauvignon, almost like a knob of butter plopped in the middle of the glass." Will Lyons, Scotland on Sunday 23/03/08
